On Wednesday, December 17th, U.S. Army Veteran Mario Rios and his family received the keys to a newly-renovated mortgage-free home from HomeStrong USA in partnership with Bank of America, the National Community Stabilization Trust and the Housing Opportunities Collaborative Inland Empire.

Mario Rios served in the U.S. Army for close to 5 years. During his years of service, Mario served two deployments in Afghanistan. Upon returning from his second deployment Mario was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” for valor. Mario was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and is currently working and attending college full-time to pursue a career in law enforcement.

“We are honored to end the year by donating a home to a veteran who has gone above and beyond to protect our country,” said Jed Davis, CEO of HomeStrong USA. “We are grateful for his service and privileged to give Mario Rios and his family a permanent place to call home.”

Mario and his family were beyond elated that they have a place of their own to celebrate Christmas and bring in the new year. To top off the surprise for the Rios family, volunteers helped decorate a Christmas tree and wrapped presents for the children.

“We have been living a fairy tale dream,” said Mario Rios. “We are just really thankful for everything and blessed to have everyone’s support.”
