VICTORVILLE • A military veteran was surprised with a new home courtesy of HomeStrong USA at a special ceremony on Saturday.
The newly renovated 1,900-square-foot home was donated to Erasmo Flores and his wife Maria, “in honor and remembrance of the sacrifice of America’s armed forces,” according to a news release from HomeStrong USA.
“We recognize that homeownership — a cornerstone of the American Dream — is not possible without the sacrifice of our service members,” Jed Davis, CEO of HomeStrong USA, said in a statement. “All gave some and some gave all. On this Memorial Day weekend, we especially honor those who paid the highest price for our freedom. We also give thanks to all of our brave men and women by giving back a piece of the American Dream they help secure.”
The home was provided through a partnership with Bank of America, the National Community Stabilization Trust and MGR Real Estate, according to the release.
Prior to Saturday’s ceremony, Bank of America employees volunteered to plant trees and flowers at the home, the release stated.
“Giving back to our military veterans in the form of homeownership is a tremendous honor for us at Bank of America. That is why we are proud to work with military related nonprofits such as HomeStrong USA to donate up to 1,000 vacant properties to our military service men and women,” said Al Arguello, Inland Empire market president, Bank of America in a statement. “This is just one way we can recognize the profound sacrifice of our military service members.”
